Bannack Days Festival

The annual Bannack Days Festival happens every third weekend in July, close to the date of the first gold strike that put Bannack on the map. It kicks off with a lively parade down Main Street, featuring horse-drawn carriages, costumed reenactors, and even a few rowdy outlaws causing a ruckus (“gunfights” have been known to break out on Main Street!) After the parade, wander through the streets of Bannack, taking in the sights of historic buildings restored to their former glory. From the saloons to the schoolhouse, each structure whispers tales of the past, offering a glimpse into the daily lives of the town’s inhabitants over a century ago.

One of the highlights of the festival is the array of interactive demonstrations and activities scattered throughout the town. Try your hand at gold panning in Grasshopper Creek with the hopes of striking it rich like the prospectors that were here long before. Watch as skilled artisans practice traditional crafts such as blacksmithing, candle making, and leather working. Witnessing them display their trade with precision and dedication is truly inspiring, reminding visitors of the ingenuity and resourcefulness of those who built Bannack from the ground up.
