January 14, 2019 by Erika L. Leave a Comment

Located on the northeastern corner of the beautiful state of Colorado, far from city lights and backed up traffic, sits Logan County. This agricultural area is the perfect place to wind down, whether you are on a road trip across the country or looking for a weekend getaway. The hub of the county is Sterling. Here you will find a “small town” atmosphere, interesting history, friendly locals and a lively downtown with shops, restaurants, and a brewery. Surrounding Sterling is the natural beauty of the high plains that provides an activity for everyone! Sterling is filled with fairs, festivals and events, so if you plan your trip just right, you may get to experience one!

Day #1

Downtown Sterling

When you first arrive into Logan County, a great way to get acquainted with this side of Colorado is walking around Downtown Sterling. You will quickly discover the rich and intriguing past of the area through painted murals, historic buildings, and creative artwork. Sterling has also been given the nickname “City of Living Trees” because of artist Bradford Rhea. He transformed dead cottonwoods into extravagant bronze creatures that have been dispersed around town.

The core of downtown Sterling consists of its small independent businesses, one being Simkins Parlour. This adorable shop is located perfectly, so that you can stop in for a tasty snack. Overland Trail Museum

This museum is truly something you cannot miss when you are visiting Logan County. You will be fascinated to learn about one of the country’s most heavily traveled roads during the days of the gold rush. The museum holds the history of those who traveled miles seeking gold and a better life. Behind the main structure, you will step back in time and get a feel for the area during the 1900’s. There are more than a dozen exhibit buildings, plus artifacts, antique farm equipment, and other historic treasures. This charming, small town museum will keep you entertained no matter your age!

You also have the choice to fish in the pond, just make sure you have a fishing license!

Dinner at Parts and Labor Brewery

After a busy day of activities, the best way to wind down is with a cold, local beer. The Parts and Labor Brewery may be the first and only brewery in Logan County, but it certainly started the county off on the right foot. Their locally brewed beer and the food menu will excite your taste buds. The atmosphere of the transformed Cadillac shop makes your experience even more fun and unique!
