Fall in Love with Nature in Davis
American West wildlife and countless miles of trails, only 30 minutes from Salt Lake City? You bet! One of the more unexpected benefits of taking a family trip to Davis, Utah is the impressive amount of wilderness you can encounter.

Camp Among Bison at Antelope Island State Park
Antelope Island State Park is a treasure-trove of discovery for older kids who are ready to hike and start glassing with their binoculars. And with multiple camping options, it’s really perfect for all ages. Over 500 bison range free in this International Dark Sky-rated destination, as well as pronghorn, bighorn sheep, bobcats and coyotes, and more. Each fall, cowboys round up the bison herd to provide routine veterinary care—creating a western spectacle to behold! Mountain bikes are allowed on the extensive trail system, and you can of course cool off in the Great Salt Lake on a hot summer day. Camping is available in designated sites, and three new cottages in Bridger Bay welcome those who prefer modern amenities.

Stroll the Boardwalk and Go Bird Watching
For those searching for a half-day outing, the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve is ideal for walking and birding. The 1.3-mile (2.09-kilometer) trail is all boardwalk, making it exceptionally stroller-friendly. A mecca for migrating birds along the eastern shore of the Great Salt Lake, we especially recommend it for a sunset visit when the birds are active and sunset views from the pavilion are at their best. Another spot for exceptional birding is the Eccles Bird and Wildlife Education Center. It is also stroller-friendly and there is even a scavenger hunt along the short walking trail that will get the whole family involved!

Year-Round Outdoor Adventure for Everyone
Families with kids who are ready to try something new can take advantage of Davis’s many recreation options, including hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking. Hikers can find secluded waterfalls, intriguing historical sites, and views on the region’s numerous trails, while mountain bikers can pedal from several dedicated trailheads.
