An exciting and cultural stop between Devils Tower and Yellowstone: Wyoming’s Wind River Hotel & Casino
Casinos can feel like a cookie-cutter experience—if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all, but that was not the case for Wind River Hotel and Casino. We even had the opportunity to experience one of their weekly traditional Northern Arapaho dance exhibitions performed by tribal members in colorful regalia and accompanied by a singing and drumming circle.
As a full-time travel writer, it’s not often that I have the opportunity to return to a place. Our visits are short, jam-packed, and if and when we can, we do it all. But when a destination has as much to offer as Carson Valley, Nevada, you take any chance you get to go back!
The Northern Arapaho Tribe owns and operates the Wind River Hotel & Casino, and the friendly and attentive staff are tribal members. The pet-friendly hotel is modern, very clean, and comfortable. The Northern Arapaho Experience Room museum offers a fascinating look into the life and culture of the Northern Arapaho tribe with authentic artifacts, clothing, weapons, shelter, artwork, dioramas and historic photos. And of course, there is always the chance to win big!
Go beyond Yellowstone National Park. Slow down in Wyoming’s Wind River Country and discover your own unforgettable holiday moments.
Throw the skis on the car and bundle up for a weekend—or a whole week—of nonstop fun. There’s plenty of room in South Lake Tahoe for the whole family this season.
I like to have room to breathe when I travel. For me, sharing a viewing platform with 50 other people doesn’t feel special; I’m trying to escape the seething mass of humanity, not meld with it. In the past, I thought I’d only find this space in the most remote parts of the American Midwest – but I was wrong. You can find your room to breathe in Wind River Country, Fremont County, Wyoming.
With about 85% of their total land space firmly in the public domain, Nevada is one of the few states in the United States where you can roam free. In this itinerary, we are going to show you the whole of the state, from north to south, east to west, and a few hidden gems in between.
Riverton, Wyoming, is a special destination en route to Yellowstone for several reasons. The first is the access to Native American culture, due to the town’s location at the edge of the state’s only Native American Reservation. The second is the full calendar, which means whenever you pass through you’re likely to find an authentic Wyoming event to attend. Finally, you can reach all these Wyoming cultural experiences in Riverton via plane or on a road trip.
