Nine distinct historical communities make up Copper Corridor: Globe, Miami, Superior, Hayden, Kearny, Oracle, San Manuel, Mammoth, and Winkelman. Each boasts its own personality and charm. Outdoor enthusiasts won’t want to miss Superior with its variety of multi-use trails, and Kearny and San Manuel are both meccas for those with OHVs in tow. (Rentals are available, too!) Alternatively, Oracle offers a smorgasbord of art and science opportunities. Meanwhile in Globe-Miami, travelers can step back in time at an archaeological site dating back to 1225 CE. And finally, in Winkleman alongside the scenic Gila River, wildlife enthusiasts can enjoy some of the finest bird watching in the Southwest. No matter where your particular interests lead you, there is a unique corner in Copper Corridor just waiting to be discovered. And the common thread that ties it all together? Miles of Hiking and Biking Trails

Hikers and mountain bikers will find miles of scenic singletrack with spring wildflowers, towering saguaro, and endless horizons in Copper Corridor. The 800-mile (1,300 kilometer) Arizona Trail winds through Oracle, and many consider the 11.65-mile (18.4 kilometer) Legends of Superior Trail (LOST) in Superior to be a “can’t-miss.” Round Mountain Hiking Park in Globe-Miami lets aspiring athletes pick from a number of loops ranging in elevation and technical ability.

Off-Road Opportunities Galore

Arizona provides endless backcountry trails for OHV enthusiasts, and the offerings in Copper Corridor do not disappoint! Montana Mountain Loop in Superior is a 35-mile (56 kilometer) loop with multiple river crossings, exciting switchbacks, and a beautiful pine forest top out. Alternatively, the five-mile (eight kilometer) loop through Peppersauce Canyon in Oracle takes visitors through a rugged canyon with views of the Catalina Mountains. Seeking something out of the ordinary? We have a few suggestions. Fly above the desert floor at Arizona Zipline Adventure in Oracle. Afterward, wash down the excitement at their restaurant with a beverage and a burger. Want to go even higher? Take to the sky–at real cruising altitude–with Superior Soaring. This engine-free method of air travel is simultaneously exhilarating and peaceful, making it an especially memorable way to experience Copper Corridor. 

Uncover Old West Tales at Every Turn 

Copper Corridor is located in the foothills and arroyos of several mountain ranges: the Superstitions, Mescals, and Galiuros. You can practically feel the Old West lore emanating from the cacti. And although Copper Corridor isn’t technically said to have harbored outlaws and famous gunslingers, we can certainly use our imaginations! What we do know is that this area holds rich historical significance for ancient cultures as well as mining heritage.

Mining History in Kearny

Dive into the living history of the region at the viewpoint of Ray Mine in Kearny. Founded in 1880, this copper mine is one of the largest copper reserves in the United States and is still in operation today. Archaeological Sites and Museums in Globe-Miami

In the Globe-Miami area, two sites await: the Besh Ba Gowah Archaeological Park and Museum, and the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum. The former is home to an archaeological site; a large pueblo village constructed by the Salado people who lived here between 1225-1450 CE. You’ll also find a small botanical garden and picnic area for modern day visitors. Bullion Plaza looks at the more recent past, featuring a wide range of exhibits. Learn about some of Arizona’s original ranchers, the diverse cultural groups who inhabited the area, and much more. You could easily spend an entire afternoon browsing the displays.

Absorb Eclectic Art and Homespun Culture

There are as many destinations for educational and thought-provoking content in Copper Corridor as there are outdoor opportunities—which is to say, a lot! In Oracle, the impressive Biosphere 2 Science Museum provides a look at the impacts of climate change. Art fans will want to follow up with the nearby Triangle L Art Ranch Sculpture Park and Barn Gallery, whereas those with a love for botany can direct their cars towards the Boyce Thompson Arboretum Superior. Globe is not without its art, either! The Stairizona Trail and Art is a self-led treasure hunt of local murals and sculptures throughout town.
