アメリカで人気のある国立公園の中で、モンタナ州に位置するのはグレイシャー国立公園とイエローストーン国立公園です。グレイシャー国立公園は州北西部の端、カナダとの国境に接しています。モンタナ州にはイエローストーン国立公園のほんの一部３％程しか含まれないが、５ヵ所ある公園入口の内、３ヵ所はモンタナ州に位置します。ウエスト・イエローストーンはその一つです。
